Venugopala Altar Set (IBCS005)
Description
This Venugopala altar set is very rich in detail. More importantly it is complete which is quite rare. Dated around 16th century it is a classic example of the Vijayanagara period.
The fine prabhavali, the yalis and the two cows are remarkable fearures of this set. The unusual position of the cows, raising their legs to come close to Sri Krishna, is almost impossible for them to achieve with one, let alone both legs. This effort of the cows reminds us and depict the longing of the devotee to reach God.
