Seated Lakshman (Orissa) (IBCS006)
Description
A very beautiful image of Lakshman from Orissa. Orissan pieces are rare and distinctive in their features. Unusually we see both the bow and the arrow (an extremely difficult achievement in bronze casting). Because of his seated posture he may have been part of the group when Rama worshiped the Linga before setting over to Lanka to combate Ravanna.
Note the bulbus eyes, typical beaded base and stylised crown. Although small this is a rare pieces and we are very pleased to have it in our collection.
