Horse Temple Toy (IBH210)

Description

These so called 'temple toys' are actually devotional donotions mainly for Khanodba and forms of Shiva alike in Central India, as well as for Ayyannar and Karuppan in Tamil Nadu.

Since ancient times the donation of a horse to the God was held in high esteem and only affordable by royals, nobles and wealthy traders. Also it was believed these bronze horses would enable the God, in times of need, to cover the distance to the devotees in time to rescue him/her from trouble and sorrow.
