Shankaranayana / Harihara (IBS303)

Description

This is a rare image where we see the two Gods of Vishnu and Shiva depicted in one icon. In this form it is called Shankaranayana or sometimes Harihara. To illustrate the two gods the pieces has been cast in an unusual copper-brass bi-metal technique that is even more rare than Ganga Jumna casting. Such type of special casting has been known in Karnataka since the 13/14th century but very few examples of this kind have come to market. On the left we see Vishnu with Chakra and Conch (the lighter metal) and on the right see Shiva with the Trident and Drum (the darker). On each side is there relevant vahanas of Garuda and Nandi. This is an extremely rare example of the finest quality. Please email us using the form below to express an interest in this piece and to receive a price.
